The recorders of power will file her as a “family member” in Hind’s incident. That is how a girl becomes a footnote in her own death.

I have listened to enough of these frequencies to know the pattern: the older child tries to sound calm for the dispatcher. The younger child tries to sound small enough to be saved. Neither frequency is compatible with a tank’s fire-control solution.

Layan Hamada is not an accessory to a more famous killing. She is a name. We hold her at full size.
